Motor boat search

Another note to fully planing hulls is that many have handling issues at low speeds. Hence going in componay with displacements boats or being forced to low speed by the conditions would be a lot of work at the helm (for the Auto Pilot if any).

Agree to making principal decisions and stick to them, also if open/closed design is desired. Being able to go inside, close the door and turn on heating indeed helps use of the boat when the weather is less than nice.

If you are looking at Antares and MF type boats, I would include Quicksilver in your search. I own the 855 Weekend and we chose it because, for us, the layout was better (e.g. inboard diesel; U-shaped dinette). Having owned a Jeanneau before I would say the overall build quality is at least on a par. We see our boat as ‘the acceptable face of caravanning’. No frills, A to B boating with a cold beer or G and T (or 3) at the destination and a foray ashore in the tender. If easy use of a tender is important, outboards won’t help (not impossible, but not as easy as snap davits on the bathing platform, which an inboard allows). To your point on Force 8s, a Cat B rating should handle winds to 40kts; not as a plan, but if you get caught out.

For the benefit of those who have taken the time to read what I wrote, and not what they think I wrote - and in so doing offer genuine, objective advice, I say thank you. To the others, ‘get a life’ comes to mind, especially those who apparently - and sadly - post pointless comments just to boost their post count!

My concluding comment - I shall be switching off notifications after this post - is that my wife and I have narrowed our search to Seawards or NordStars.

I did take the time who read what Coriolanus wrote, and I tried to offer genuine objective advice, and if I am one of those who he is thanking then I acknowledge his thanks.

But I don't think it is appropriate to be so dismissive of other comments which have been posted and I think it is inexcusable to tell any forumite to 'get a life'. How dare this new member be so rude to the community?

I have ticked the 'ignore' box for Coriolanus and sadly I will be a bit more reticent about offering advice to other new members in future until they have proved that they are congenial companions in the boating adventure.

Up until #34 I thought the OP was quite rude but I guess it's just a particular style. Different strokes etc. An interesting thread nonetheless.

Yes... his style is rude and unnecessarily unpleasant. Why join a forum and then be rude to people? I’ve had tons of useful advice here over the years, including some contractual that saved me several thousand in legal fees (thanks JFM) - I doubt he will get the same level of help!

He will be back with a new name , it is a shame because the new boat post always puts you in touch with new boats , keep up the good work gents .
