Hi everyone sorry if this is a silly question but can I ask what is the difference between living on a motor boat or a sailing boat please? Which is best and cheapest? Thanks, Holly x

I prefer motor boats but they can be expensive to run as you need plenty in the tank.

Living on a boat that doesn't go anywhere ... motor boat, sailing boat, similar costs, as the Marina Fees are the same.
If you do use a sailing yacht, obviously fuel costs are cheaper, but maintaining standing rigging and sails is not. Engine does need to be maintained.
Motor Boat ... an SC35 uses maybe 60 litres of diesel an hour at 22kts. Plus servicing costs for engines and outdrives each year.

Never mind some of the replies, they don't get out very much!!
If I was to be planning to live on a boat it would be a motorboat. As per the replies above, for the same length of boat they have more living space, more light due to more glass and are generally more user friendly. Neither do you have a mast and rigging that you have to clamber around plus ropes and winches that clutter the decks. With regard to running costs, as mentioned above, you can have motorboats that will burn anything from 60-200 litres per hour if you want to get around at speed. Equally, you can have something more sedentary that will plod around at 6 knots and burn 5-10 l/hr for cheap and relaxed cruising.
