All,

Can anyone recomend any insurance comapny that bring the annual amount year on year with NCB accumulating ? I have been with Mardon Marine now for 3 years and my NCD isnt going down by much at all.

Chris

I think with most (if not all) marine policies the NCB bonus is 5% per year, limited to 25% - so once you have done 5 years that's it.

I think this reflects the genarally low rate of claims and also the high value of a claim when it does happen. I.E most people dont bust up their boats, so a big period without a claim is nothing special but if they do, it costs a packet.

Boat insurance is much better value to start with when you compare to car insurance. With car insuarnce you are much much more liekly to smash it up, hence 60-70% discounts for being a good boy as that is really quite hard...

We currently insure with Navigators and General. The policy isnt expensive and has been tailored to suit our needs. The no claims discount is small but the cost of the policy isnt huge anyway.

I use Denovo Marine Underwriting based in Lymington.

A proper company with friendly response.
Shelly answers the phone, Shelly sends out your docs and Shelly answers the week after.
Not some call centre who doesn't give a stuff.

I guess it depends on the value of the boat and the premium that you are paying at the end of the day. NCB's as Whitelighter says max out at around 25%, just shop around and get the best deal that gives you the cover that you need.

Traffords, good price and very good when our dingy was pinched. Actually found one to replace it on B&O for me!
