Most depressing day of the year - Photo thread needed

2009 had some highs and some very very low "lows". That said the highs were good, moved to a new cruising ground and marina and have had some good times and fun. We started the year like this

But for me the best was finally after three years getting over to the GB meeting in the Pacific North West. We were made more than welcome and greeted by some great people. Here is a picture of the meeting in Roach Harbor where there were 90 plus GBs.

But this is the best cruising area I have ever been to. Hundreds of Islands to cruise and some spectacular views.

On the downside this character keeps rolling up trying to get into my drink cabinet!

he fancy's a boat sinds many many years,
and I am very happy and proud that I have been able to assist him with the purchase of his very first boat, that he bought in UK Conwy.
Just before Christmas we travelled her all the way from Wales to Belgium,
Perhaps the best boating experience from last year.
This is before we leave Conwy Marina.

and now while I write, he moved the boat to its final destination in Calpé Spain.
full story will follow in another post

Nice Thread Nick

Most depressing day? NOT!!!!!

Merlin moved under her own power for the first time since August-and what a cracking day for it! Popped into the fuel berth at Gosport where Marcia made coffee as they sorted out the card reader, then we 'blasted' (25 knots) across to Ryde and back on a millpond-smooth Solent, pootled back up through the harbour past the Ark Royal and...(what's the other carrier called?) my 'new' (ex German Navy) AQ225D as smooth as the water...,the sun shining on our backs..into Quay Lane, where the engine died 20 feet from our berth... :-$ ....and didn't want to start again....ah well, no day's ever perfect!

2009 was our best boating year yet. Early in the season, encountering this guy en route to Lymington made my boy's week.

This was taken whilst swimming with the waterproof camera in Alum Bay during August. The water was warm, the sea calm and incredibly clear.

Excuse the fenders, I really must Photoshop them away. SWMBO was being lazy that day and hadn't stored them away :D

Roll on spring...

Bradwell report 17TH JANUARY 2010

Cunning plan goes awry, but never mind it was a lovely day,

17thJanuary2010001-1.jpg

we got away from the marina at 9-15 am and slogged against the tide for a hour and a half.

The anchor was set in about 45 feet and the dropper put to work, the baits were cast uptide and downtide and we sat down in great expectation. After about 3 hours NOTHING, even though the dropper had been at work and the baits changed every ten minutes or so, our score was zilch, not even a bite. A council of war was called and we decided to move close inshore, even though other boats already inshore were reporting dire information.
We set the anchor in 18 feet, at high water, and had to wait for the ebb to start, dropper at work feverishly, baits spread in an arc behind the boat, the Ebb started to run but still no sign of a bite, this was getting a bit of a bore. Had the chatter on the radio not been so gloomy we would no doubt have moved again but no one was doing any good so we stayed put. It took 2 hours for the first indication and Steve went at it hammer and tongues, but the result was disappointing to say the least, a codling weighing about 2lbs it went straight back to grow up

. Lunch was served a splendid Chicken Balti, followed by a Good Fellows pizza, THEN WE GOT STUCK INTO TRYING TO MAKE THIS DAY HAPPEN!! It did’nt we finished up at the end of the day with 6 small codling all of which we returned, no amount of stretching them would make them any bigger.

Talk about the parable of the five little fish and three loaves, I am glad the five thousand did not turn up.

We called it a day at about 3-30pm and beat home against the tide with our tails well and truly tucked between our legs.

Now here's a picture worth a thousand words, the plant life indicates fresh water rather than brine, the growth suggests a good length of time undisturbed, possibly means the craft the lines are attached to is somewhere interesting with good bars and restaurants, south of Morlaix, Redon would be my guess, where three rivers meet the Brest-Nantes canal:D
