Mosquito Deterrent

The best one I have ever encountered and available everywhere and much cheaper than anything else around the world was Listerine Mouth Wash
Spray a few squirts on yourself, the foilage around your barbie or cockpit and you will not be troubled.
Works on mozzies and midges. ;)

I thought of you when I posted that lot above. Nearly Midnight and the folk in the next berth hear me crying with laughter. Hope your potions work. :D :D

Its the first I have heard of that Avon dry oil stuff. I contacted a relative who works for the government in Florida, he says that the forest rangers have been using that Avon stuff for years.

I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK, i work all night and i w............

Anyone had experience with ultrasonic type mosquito deterrents on board, either battery or mains, do they work?. ................

Nobody seems to have mention the very high voltage zappers with a neon light, like the ones that you have in butchers. Don't think they are Ultrasonic. We have a 12 volt Nauticalia model that we leave on all night and does get some of them, but you can have a lot of fun with the tennis racket mossy killer - about 2.50 euros in Chinese shops. The strings are a very high voltage mesh and it makes a great sound when it fries the little beasts. Becomes a bit of a ritual each night when you hear one as we go ballistic around the cabin till we've got him.

It seems from previous posts its not worth going for the hims cos they don't bite, but how do you tell the difference?

Whilst mosquitos may blunder into an ultra violet light zapper, they are not attracted to them as other insects are. Hence all the other remedies mentioned in this thread. The electric tennis racquets are great fun but waving them around at 2am in the morning in an effort to get a mozzie may not be conducive to connubial bliss- it's also damn easy to hit bits of the inside of boat that ought not be hit quite so hard . . . . or one's partner.

We use DEET which is used by the military. Also we put the mosquito nets on an hour before dusk. The coils don't kill the mosquitos just knock them out. Coils don't last all night so they wake up and...
