As another thread mentioned - my throttle cable detached from its lever mount and the rod to cable part suffered a bend - this now makes ther cable stiff to operate ...

I wish to replace the cable - but cannot find the model designation for the Morse Control The cable has different end design to the morse cable I replaced in my sailboat ....

Can anyone actually identify the Model Id of this control and the cable type : (length I know will have to be ascertained).

My other boat used a 33C cable .... and maybe this does - but when I unscrewed the lever unit from the bulkhead - the inner rod etc looked much shorter than the other boat cable.

The locking U piece is same though.

Just thought ... if I didn't throw away the old cable from the other boat - I may be able to compare ends ....

I'm suffering terrible cold possible flu at present so not inclined to go out there today to check ... once the aches and pains go away - then I'll be out there.

OK ... cable is a 33C ... and estimate 15 - 17ft ...

What I don't like - is that whoever installed it has bonded the cable where i passes through bulkhead .. that will need breaking out and its right back in the rear odf engine bay / side locker ...

Here you can see the bend in the solid rod part ... tried straightening - its far better than it was .. but thats best I can get ..

There are 2 types of the cable. The expensive one can do a much smaller radius and might remove the chance of it bending. Would a longer cable give a better curve into the control boxes well ?

Control is MI or derivative there of and uses 33c cable’s and when installed should leave the initial 18 “ approximately not restricted in movement
Both cable end connections are at extreme ends of thread end
there is a more flexible cable version which will drop in but will not sort the problem
Again sticking to morse instructions will help if you can find them
Remember set up in slow ahead or reverse engine stopped

Noted when you first posted ... but delayed response !

The unit is a two cable unit and gear selection is not an issue when setting up. I am not so knowedgable about the different cable types as I only have had to deal with 3 setups .. two being 33C and the other a Johnson Outboard system, but on this I feel OK.

I noted the lack od adjustment remaining ... once I remove the air box and get to both ends - it may be possible to sort that. I have a feeling that the multiple throttle linkage on the engine may be the reason.

The boat has always suffered from lack of reliable idle until engine temp is at normal .. this gives rise to awkward first minutes as engaging gear can only be done at idle lever. The adjustment of the cable - by whoever installed has obviously been to try and sort that ...

I may look at possibility to add an extension to the engine bracket - to lengthen the distance cable end has before its connector.

Received new cable ... due to old being a difficult fit - I estimated length and added a bit !

New cable is 19ft ....

Old cable had to have bulkhead hole enlarged to let end pass through to remove .. obviously who-ever installed it - put morse cable through first - then electrical looms through after .. making it a tight fit.

Old removed ... found out why idle was bad ... where lever end of cable was damaged - it forced cable at engine to 'break out' of its cable grip.

New cable fitted BUT now I have an easy working cable - but is too long and means it moves giving unreliable throttle position in low speed region .. the old cable now removed measured is 13ft.

Another cable on order this time correct length ... so then I should have correct function. The too long cable can be kept as spare for another boat ...
