I am having trouble with my Morse cables sticking and being very tight to operate. Can they be lubricated in situ. of so how or is it time to replace them with new ones?. They are dual controled wheelhouse and cockpit the wheelhouse set being tighter to operate than the cockpit set.

Jim.

G'day Jim,

If you remove the top end of the cable and drop a small funnel over it and apply some pvc tape, you can half fill the funnel (With diesel) and let it soak down, then add some lubricating oil (Not graphite based). it's a lot of messing about but will save having to remove them.

Hope this helps

Frosts advertise a cable oiler price £15.50. I believe you need to be sure this oiler will fit your size of cable and understand that apart from the one Frosts offer the manufacturers make a larger sized one to fit heavy duty cables. Both these oilers are designed to inject oil under pressure. You can find Frosts on www.frost.co.uk Good luck

I got "Frost Auto Restoration Techniques" in Rochdale...

I'm new to sailing so not 100% sure what a Morse Cable is, but you could have a look in your local motorcycle dealers. Most of them carry little gadgets that oil the chain automatically.. One of them may need a bit of modification but it might do the trick..
