is it worth buying in moriconium Quay, Poole? what does everyone think? good safe place for my young children to learn to cruise/sail or in the middle of no-where and expensive? i'd appreciate any opinions or suggestions from locals or "those-in-the-know"Cheers

Wonderful area - Poole Harbour is excellent for learning to sail in and also provides great cruising. Dorset coast lovely and Solent not too far. Cherbourg only 65 NM South. Don't know about prices but most seem to include a 10-11m berth. Compare to MDL at Cobbs Quay. I have a boat (8.8m) in Parkstone YC and pay c£2000/yr

Poole Harbour probabley has a higher proportion of motor boats to sailboats than most places.
Property at Moriconium Quay is very expensive for that part of town (which isnt very special). There are always a fairly large number of properties for sale for such a relatively small development.
Moorings cannot be sold or let seperately

Having sailed regularly out of the adjacent marina, Lake Yard, beware of the tide running across the entrance. Can be exciting to get in/out of, particularly on springs.
Once outside great, but depends upon what you are sailing, can get shallow outside main channel.
security is ok, SBS are just a stones throw away - on second thoughts perhaps better not - (they have v.fast RIB's etc, that do operate 24/7, with exemption from speed limits even in the harbour).

come see for yourself...

a few boaters are getting together over the weekend of 6th december. saturday meet, chat, pint etc. last meet we ended up having a curry and drinking mulled wine back on board.

if any of you fancy it check out the ad hoc forum..

regards, steve.

doesnt sound overly enthusiastic; i would really like a property with a mooring however, but I do agree with the large price tag for these properties. Any non-obvious alternatives spring to mind for anyone?

Have you had a look at the development at Dolphin Marina Poole - now back on track & much better than Moricoium Quay. No moorings available on a permanent basis at Dolphin apparently though, but great view & position.
