Ooo er. Do you know the name of the sunseeker massiweb? It seems to be a 'hattan 70-something or 80-something. You have to be VERY careful there becuase it is easy to go aground. Same location as my avatar pic. - the stonework off my bow in avatar pic is the stonework in your second pic A Squadron 62 went down there several years ago too.

Was hoping to be enjoying a beer or two right now en France, chez daughter, except for blimmin Eurostar & channel tunnel fire, and being sent away after check in & passport control, only to find fire had started three hours earlier, but everyone managed to somehow forget to tell you about it. Bollox. So back home again. So is it pay through the nose for last minute sleaseyjet, or wait for BA friend tomorrow to see what he can do, or wait for tunnel to reopen, which sounds like it might not be eerrrrr tomorrow or the next day or the one after even?? So Mr JFM, right at the moment, I'm not too turned on by these piccys francais, so kindly maybe think of those others less fortunate before posting /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Great pics, as usual - thanks. Like the crew uniform; let's just hope there isn't a picture in existence of the captain in the same uniform...! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Unfortunately not.
I took several pictures from different angles, but the boat being stuck in that position, I was not able to get the name.

I was at anchor between the 2 islands, so i passed over the idea of going there with my tender (too far!).

BTW, that huge yellow floating thing you see in my previous picture (do not know the english word for that!!!), doesn't it mean that you have to pass on it's port side? That sunseeker was on the starbord side...
Anyway, it was 11/08/2008, at 17.30.

But the boat seemed smaller to me.. I was thinking it was a 64 footer... may be in this closer pic you can get a better view:

The yellow thing is a "south cardinal" in English and you are supposed to pass to the south of it (as opposed to port or starboard). The sunseeker is to the north of it - your pictures are taken looking South-South East. Actually you can go to the north of it (as I am, anchored in my avatar pic) but you have to be very careful

(In fact, you have to go quite a long way south of that particular cardinal, becuase there is still shall water south of it)

The sunseeker is a hattan 74 I reckon. Not a 64. Though others are better on spotting s'seekers than me, so I'll happily by corrected.

Don't take me wrong, but you're giving these gentlemen the impression that Italy invented some new weird rules.
It's rather the two black thingies on top that you should look at.
Depending on their shape and position, you should either pass N, E, S or W, or just stay clear from the mark.

Thank you!
Indeed, I was not able to see the two black thingies, and from the position I was when I took the pictures, because of the perspective I was on, I figured that it was a "pass on my port side" cardinal! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Yes, it was from memory, not studying the pic. I have sailed past that cardinal 1000 times. In fact, i have even been marooned on it (possibly illegally) with just a stepladder for company. I'll try to find you a pic of that - I have one somewhere but not on this laptop :)

All that said, you can tell it is a south cardinal from the yellow/black paint, you dont need to see the triangles, tut tut Mapis /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

'salright, I just hope you've got someone taking care of helming your nice Aicon, 'cause such thing as a "pass on my port side" cardinal just doesn't exit... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Just think about it, depending on where you're approaching the mark from, "port side" could be anywhere!... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Darn, I had to enlarge the pic to realise that the black on the bottom aren't the rocks, it seemed like the mark was all yellow (which isn't rare at all, I've also seen some in other weird colours, with no black bands).
Anyway. Oculist it is.

illegal stuff

Yikes. I've found the photos but photobucket.com is down for maintenance. Is it really illegal to climb up a cardinal mark ???

Re: illegal stuff

Well, afaik the general rule is that you should stay clear from any cardinal mark, in order to not impair its visibility to anyone else.
Whether this applies also to a man alone, actually I don't know - maybe it depends on how tall you are?
And frankly, I just couldn't resist to argue about that, after your tut tut!.....

Re: illegal stuff

Ok here is the illegal picture. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gifIt's me and a step ladder on the very same cardinal mark as in Massiweb's pictures. Massiweb's photo is taken looking to the South; my photo is taken looking towards the NW (Theoule and La Nap in the background).

Oh wait... there are blue flashing lights and sirens outside... they're coming to arrest m
