More on gas fittings.

I was replying specifically to the op's concern about his fitting which after all is the subject of this thread!Why replace it with a brass one when it ai'nt broke! :rolleyes:

What are the problems with brass fittings on gas systems.
 
Well, it looks broke to me, certainly the top part. No way would I refit that.

You need to remember that Nicholas 123's prime source of materials for maintaining his boat is his local pound shop - and even then he often finds them too expensive!

So your earlier objection that it "age hardens & can become brittle" is not relevant.

Anyway exactly what do you mean by "age hardens" I understand the reasons why it work hardens and the theory of how it can be annealed but I don't understand the mechanism of age hardening in connection with brass.

My experience is that brass is more unpredictable than mild steel & I have had it fail for no apparent reason.I am going to leave it there Vic what you use is up to you.
