More chemical activity and hlb\'s boat remover
I have been asked to update my work relating to lashing chemicals around the boat.
The first part of the this report relates to hlb-supplied Boat Removing Elxir, which, in common with other liquid potions avalable on the forum is made from indeterminate ingredients. Nonetheless, it is very very excellent at cleaning fenders, bilges and foredecks. I plan to try it on the seats. Concentration used was about 50-1 and it is by far the best boatcleaner i have ever tried, and let me tell you have tried quite a lot.
Talking of which, at the other end of the scale, i have been doing more work with dangeroius chemicals and having cleaned the boat with petrol, flushed the black water tank with sulphuric acid, removed any rust with nitric acid, cleaned the teak with oxalic acid, it was time to clean the primary fliters. The local acid-pusher (chandlery) decided that hydrochloric acid would be best, and was on special offer as Acid Of The Week, so i bought 10 litres. Huge calciumified filters were rendered new and shiny inside a few seconds of being dunked in the HCl bucket. A cupful went down the blocked galley drain and that too was cleared almost instaneously.
I am now on the lookout for some sort of moisturising for my hands as they are a stinging a bit, though very clean. Also a bit worried about the chemicals locker.
