Can somone please tell me where to get all info on small harbours in Moray Firth. I hope to visit this year and would like to go to small harbours like Pennan ,Burghead etc etc. I just would like entry instructions

Ian you mentioned a couple of lovely little harbours Pennan is realy nice very small dries out but a good pub! Anyway you should be able to get local info from Caley Marina Tel.01463 236359.

One of the Imray Charts (can't say which one as it is on the boat) has a fair number of Moray Firth ports as "exploded" inserts.

Alternatively the Macmillan Reeds Nautical Almanac has:

o Charts of Peterhead, Fraserburgh, Macduff/Banff, Whitehills, Buckie, Lossiemouth, Hopeman, Burghead, Findhorn, Nairn and Inverness.

o Descriptions of Rosehearty, Pennan, Gardenstown, Portsoy, Cullen, Portknockie, Findochty, Fortrose and Avoch.

Hope this helps. See you when you arrive.

Best regards :o)

Reeds is adequate...

I had to go into Burghead last autumn, a scary experience in the dark, especially as I sail a cat with 23 ft. beam! I got all the info I needed from Reeds/Macmillans. The local imray chart has some useful chartlets also.

Aberdeenshire Council will send you a free 40 page booklet on their harbours & those of Moray Council (Buckie, Burghead, Cullen, Findochty, Hopeman, Portknockie) which is updated annually, includes basic chartlets, HBM details etc & even tide timetables!
I believe there's also a "Vistor's Rover Ticket" scheme to reduce berthing costs...
Ring the "Transportation and Roads" Dept (sic!) of Aberdeenshire Council in Banff: 01261 813200.
Hope this helps, Iain.
