Next season I'm taking the jump and purchasing a mooring from new from an established supplier who will also lay it - I've rented for far too long and the money the marina want is laughable for 6 months.

Question is:

What exactly does a mooring consist of? It will be a deep water mooring 10 - 20 metres depending on exact location; 4.5 tonne yacht.

If I ask for a quote - what should I expect?

Hi Donald
As a yacht club moorings officer on the south coast, I would say that you could be looking at a bill of some £400 or so. The mooring in question will be of a large ground weight or two big anchors at either end of a short ground chain. from this will be your heavy riser up to the bouy/float with a swivel beneath. From this you should take your top chain which will reach your foredeck cleat or samson post. The top chain will have to be connected by a length of rope to your grab bouy. I will be happy to answer any other questions.
