Does anyone know of where I can find out places where I can moor my boat on Lake Windermere (preferably alongside a pontoon rather than a swing mooring) ?

I've searched the web but can only seem to find Windermere Marina Village which is quite expensive.

If anyone knows of anywhere else, and any costs, please could you let me know.

Thanks.

The only other large marina is The Quays at Windermere Aquatic around in Bowness Bay - Its Only Money (Ian) who posts hereabouts is moored there. They are in the process fitting all new floating pontoons and the prices are similar to WMV. I think Waterhead Boat Sales at Ambleside may also have some serviced berths but realistically you only have WMV or the Quays.

Hi There,

As Martyn said pontoon berths are limited. What type of Boat do you have and what size. I am in WMV and yes it is expensive but you do get the leisure club. You can always put it on a mooring at a cost of only about £900 for a 24 ft boat. There are then the Public Jetties at Ferry nab (where the Wardens are Based) that you can use all weekend and there are toilets for free and showers for a pound. Unfortunately no electric though. There is also parking. The only Issue is you need a Dinghy to get out to the Boat. You can get cheaper berths in WMV which have no electricity.

Are you also aware there is a speed limit coming on to the whole lake in March next year??

Please feel free to ask any other questions.

Regards

Paul

Hi
As Martyn and Paul explained there is not a great deal of choice, hence the high cost due to monopoly by WMV and Aquatics. Pauls idea of a swinging mooring may be an option if you dont mind no terra firma. We need to know your boat length before we can give any correct costings.

Out of Curiosity Ian, How much is a berth at WMV for say a 24' boat??

At Ardlui Loch Lomond, it is about £1400.

24' at Aquatics is approx £2100 + vat I think WMV is about the same but Paul will no doubt confirm.

24ft Boat is £2595 plus VAT. Then add Winter Electric £200 and Leisure Club Membership £225. All in about £3200. If you want it in the car park out of water for the winter add £1200.

Probably cheaper than the South Coast though?

Paul has very kindly included all those extra costs incurred that we would rather forget about. Thanks Paul /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Its making me feel good about Majorca. €420 (£280) per month all in inc year round electricity. Lift £60 each way. Storage ashore about the same as afloat but as I rent monthly don't have to pay both. OK can't guarantee same mooring when put back in but WMV reserved the right to move boats as suited them as well.

AND PETROL 65p PER LITRE. I am NOT coming back (please disregard previous dummy out post).

Dear Med Smug.
We all wish you would make your mind up, first its the dogs bollocks then its just bollocks now your in smug mode. Incidentally have you added additional anchors into the cost of berthing in Majorca /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
Seriously though, you are paying a flipping good rate down there.

Last year and the year before i think there wasn't a berth to be had on LL, But this year is a different storey for some reason, I know there is certainly a few vacant berths in our Marina at the moment..
