Picked up a mooring on the north side of the river near Levington for a lunch stop. When I lifted the bouy to thread my line through the ring, I noticed the sinker line below the bouy was literally hanging on by a thread. (possible lassoing damage?) Decided against that one then.

This was the single line of bouys at the west end of the trot (yellow bouy) so not sure who the owner is, probably not one of Levington Marina‘s though. Beware.

I'd better be more careful. I single hand a lot across teh North Sea and usually stop for a sleep on my way back on one of those very buoys. I look for one with a strop so I don't have to try to hard to thread a line and think about wind and tide. My understanding is that they belong to SYC and I noticed a friend's little plastic folk boat (Jester Challenger) on one of the buoys last weekend when I picked up a buoy for a sleep.

Old mooring gear - never serviced or overhauled. When we had a berth at SYH we knew of several failures, with the broken gear being dumped onto the fuel ponton close to our boat.
Bit of an old chestnut about lassoing damage - if an occasional rope round another rope for only a minute or two could cause that sort of damage then all of the mooring loops, which are the spliced end of the same piece or rope, would be severed in very short order.
