Hi all,

I recently became the owner of a 1975 24ft Hirondelle sailing catamaran. At the moment, she's berthed down on the South coast, but she can't stay there too much longer and I need to take her home to Yorkshire.

Does anyone know of any reasonably priced moorings on the Yorkshire coast?

Moreover, I'm pretty new to long sea trips, having mostly done day sailing around the Solent at Day Skipper level. Any tips for a long trip up the East coast would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I think Humber Mouth YC have drying moorings. Humber Yawl Sailing Club may have mud berths. There are also 2 marinas at Grimsby (GCYC and Humber Cruising Assoc) one at Hull.

There is also Gibralta Point SC which has jetty berths.

As for the trip, I think you'll be getting a lot of advice shortly on this forum. In my opinion, not a trip to be undertaken lightly as it depends on many factors.

Bridlington, Scarborough? Don't know north of Wells, but you are going in the easier direction (weather dependent) . In fact weather is your only concern if you can read a chart and tidal atlas. Lots of places to stop on the way as far as Wells, which in your cat should give you a good tidal window.
"Crossing the Thames Estuary" website VG for tide and passage planning. Bigger jump from Lowestoft to either Wells or Humber though. Forget Yarmouth.
Just make sure you get the tide right going round Dover, North Foreland, and NE Norfolk. Very strong tidal streams.

there's almost no bolt holes from wells up to grimsby you can dive into the wash and boston if you really need and the beaches near skegness and north are mostly sandy and dry quite far out so beaching at low tide you will refloat in most cases if you really have issues but literally a last resort.

cheapest mooring on the humber would be down the river at goole for a 30 foot 12 foot wide i was quoted £120 a month at viking but its only small and both viking and the boat yard opposite have pretty long waiting lists.
hull marina is next cheapest and has space.
You'll not get a cat into yawl club i don't think.
both the grimsby clubs are the most expensive places in the area avoid unless you have very deep pockets tbh.
