We can all laugh. But a simple error can cause total havoc. When it starts to go wrong there is little one can do.
it would be interesting to know how it all started.
Once across that first anchor chain there was no hope & whilst the armchair sailors can say now what the helm should/ should not have done ,it has to be said that there was little he could do. Having seen that, i do not think i would want one of those fixed bow sprits though.
Like a fish on a hook. Just fill in the insurance details.

Just looking at where their anchor is out of sight I wonder if this went wrong when the guy on the bow promised the helm that he'd dropped the hook "No its gone, the anchor is definitely away!"

Not sure why so much forbearance here for someone who clearly should not have taken that boat out. We've all cocked up but I doubt we've all repeatedly gone full throttle into things when its going wrong, thinking that will make it work and then without taking a breather to reconsider, coming back to do it all again. Or have we?

It's a shame they stopped everyone rafting against Poole quay. That used to be a brilliant place to watch cock-ups.

I watched someone cock-up quite spectacularly at Wareham Quay once. Ended up with him going sideways under the bridge and emerging without his mast.

I have never moored up stern first Med style so I shall refrain from commenting untill I have tried and mastered that.......
The profusion of phones with video instantly available means that pretty much anyone can become a youtube/ twitter/ facebook star.

I think it’s the combination of big numbers of inexperienced charterers combined with the Greek’s weird use of anchors rather than lazy lines (used in most other Med countries) that makes it entertainin.

I find Med mooring much simpler than finger berths but when people panic and use high throttle and also forget about all the neighbouring anchor chains then this happens. I have a couple of times had similar problems in a cross wind but fortunately without making it worse by throttle use - much better to use the helping hands to keep everything fendered then either turn the boat by wind and hands so that you can reverse or go forward to go out and try again, or if that’s not possible use a rib with outboard - yours or one of the many others about to pull the boat out and away. Slow, calm, friendly seems to work well.
