Ist post please be gentle!! Was looking at buying a my first boat next year but got such a good deal on a on a credit crunch New Jeanneau from Walton marine that I'm now in a pickle as to where to keep the boat? Swanwick Marina seem to have some good winter deals but am not sure whether its the right place to be? Looking for good social marina with easy berthing for first timers. Any advice welcome!!!

We moored at Universal Marina for many years and found it pleasant and sociable. It might be a few squids cheaper than Moodys at Swanwick

Shamrock quay?

Kemps up the river if you don't mind sitting on the mud (much miuch cheaper)

Drivers Wharf dry stack

Swanwick is good for first timers depending on if you get an outer or inner berth. Fingers are very long and often there are 2 boats per finger - depends on the boat size. But with long fingers come huge fairways - plenty of room if it all goes wrong. A few bars nearby and generally very nice people.

depends how deep your pockets are /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The hamble is one of the most expensive places to park your boat on the south coast...

how about gosport if you want to save a few grand... premier haslar or royal clarence... not too far from the solent and to cross the pond if you desire... and not too far further from winchester... with a view of spinny tower and war ships

Our boat lives in the Hamble. We looked a a number of the marinas before deciding on Hamble Point. Its prolly the most expensive, but it does have everything you might need on site, plus it has the shortest drive to open water.

Send me a PM ( Private message ) if you want to chat on the phone. I will be gentle and won't bite!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Swanwick. Good services, good Indian and Chinese locally, good pub opposite (Jolly Sailor). Easy access from M27 without long traffic delays. Moorings as described./forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Outboard or single shaft? If it's your first boat and single shaft you need to consider tide - single shaft for a newbie at certain marinas on the Hamble can be interesting when the tide runs hard.So location of the berth within the marina is important.

I was out yesterday doing some photography for a test on a Jeanneau 625 Legend with a 115 outboard and that is easypeasey.

Riverside boat yard on the Hamble, (between the A27 & the M27), charge me £230 pcm for my Sealine S28 - 29ft. A proper yard, with plenty of character & friendly people. All the outside berths have Shorepower & water.

We have just secured our first mooring on the Hamble, at Eastlands Boatyard, half the price of Mercury and the like.

Alright it may not have the Kudos of some of the others, but it has seemingly good security, water and power to the pontoons, and you are dealing direct with the owners (a husband and wife team).

Our boat has not arrived there yet so we can't speak from direct experience, but we are really looking forward to being there.

Last marina on the Hamble. I was there before the pontoons went in! I hope you don't have to long a walk!!

You will have bridge restrictions but so beware - there are plenty of folks who will tell you when you can get under the bridge, but if you have a flybridge you will be limited.

Another one at Eastlands - does not have all the marina stuff like a bar / fuel etc but as others have said, it is significantly cheaper and there are loads of facilities near by.

M27 noise is a consideration but, like a ticking clock, you soon tune it out.

Happy boating!
