I've noticed more and more, the creaking and pull on my bow line when I am trying to sleep. Its a standard set up with a standard mooring line. Its the same when on a buoy with the creaking against the hull.

What do you all do to prevent or reduce the rope noise?

Thanks

Organic detergent; just a few drops. A line that creaks is generating heat and that can build up to fusing (and thermal degradation) of the fibres, indicated by a glazed look at near the pressure point.

Buy a snubber ,in case you don’t know what one is ,it’s a piece of thick rubber you thread rope through 2 close eyes one end wrap rope round it and thread through the 2 eye at the other end , when boat snatches it allows the rope to effectively stretch should stop your creaking and takes the strain of your deck fittings so don’t get spider cracks round them

boat noises make me happy and sleep better. Like seagulls. clanking halyards, wave slap under the shine and squeaky fenders.
Learn to appreciate and enjoy :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I’m a terrible sleeper (hence posting this at 4:30am)... The rope noise when really loud, if swinging etc just keeps me awake!

Will try some of the ideas. Cheers!

To a point, but it's the metronomic squeak that bugs me when it happens.
And also, my anchor/chain grumbles and I don't think Fairy Liquid would stop that  !

Being a light sleeper whilst in command of a vessel is a very good trait :encouragement:
