What are you looking for - congratulation? If so well done, cheap moorings etc... Are you clever? Well it's a distinct possibility but others have probably done it as well. So please explain what sort of response you wanted?

Was hoping for response from other users as to the amounts of money paid in various types of mooring available to boaters.Just curious as to total lack of replies from motor boaters to whom the cost of mooring seems of small consequence compared to our raggie friends..

Ahh I understand (and I'm still jealous of your cheap fees). As I see it the cost of mooring is part of the ownership costs of the boat. Like fuel, insurance, VHF licence etc.. OK mooring cost has been going up in recent years and it might be cheaper elsewhere - the old vote with your keel arguement. BUT when you get a boat you figure in the cost of leaving it somewhere, if you didn't then you can't really complain.

This thread seems to come up once a month. A common posting is where are Londoners / Kent types supposed to base their boats apart from the Solent - one of the more expensive areas. The answer is Wales it's cheaper - and some would say nicer, OK it takes you twice as long to get there but is your gripe time or cost? If it's cost then trade off in time, if it's time then trade off cost.

Having said that I wish they were cheaper <G>

My post was just a gentle jibe that marina mooring is not the only way you can get on the water at a sensible cost.Still can not understand why people pay vast fortunes to moor boat miles and miles away from where they live and yes I know some people live miles from water and then endure hours n hours in traffic when I suspect there is somewhere much closer to home available. It would not be anything to do with keeping your boat in the "right" location would it? Even if it that means hardly ever using the boat. yours humbly old git.

Gently jibe away sir - and being humble doesn't suit you <G>.

For ourselves we could have (possibly) left the boat on the East coast but we didn't really like the marina and the travel time was about the same for a South coast mooring. I didn't want to buy a boat and then drive everywhere in first gear. So either a coastal or eustary mooring was required - river just didn't suit us. So it boils down to East / South or Wales. The sun seems to shine more in the South and everyone rates the Solent / IOW area so that is where we went.

Make your choice and pay your money.

Don't talk to me about it, LYH have put theirs up nearly 10% for next year.
