Hi
I might be in the process of purchasing my first yacht, a Moody 336 Bilge keel
I’m struggling to get it moored anyway that has reasonable prices, I eventually want to go to Swansea marina but unfortunately I was 10th on the waiting list
I don’t fancy paying Cardiff and penarth prices either
I really want a marina with electricity and water for the odd night stay over for me and my family
I’ve been looking at Burry Port but only read bad things about it on here, is it really that bad ?? The mooring fees for the yacht work out at just over a grand so I’m pretty happy paying that till my mooring at Swansea becomes available, I live in Aberdare so only 30 or so mins from me
Thanks

Hi why not give them a bell and ask?
I had a boat mooring there for a while 30 years ago and the problem was silting up of the harbour and approach if I remember correctly.
I moved to Cardiff. There are yacht clubs there which have reasonable prices, try Cardiff yacht club. Good luck

The problem with the Cardiff yacht clubs is you need two members to propose and second you, I don’t know anyone who’s a member, also Swansea is the same tbh
Cheers

If you visit a club a few times and have a drink in the bar it won't take long before you can get someone to propose you and second you.

Do they have a temporary membership that enables you to meet potential sponsors ? There's generally a work around if you want stay after a year but haven't found sponsors for whatever reason, like not going much.

I'm in the same... err boat.. 🫣

I have just bought a Virgo Voyager that's stuck on the hard down Pembroke because I cant find anywhere to moor her. I was 12th in the que for Swansea 🙈. I have tried every phone number I've found and cant get any contact for Burry Port marina. I spoke to Carmarthen Council who are now custodians of the marina and the only contact info the had directed me back to the marina group who are in liquidation! No one seems to know what's going on there at all.

Having a bilge keeler like you I'm ok with drying out in Burry Port, Just cant get hold of them to get a berth!

Hi Luke. You could try to contact the Pembrey and Burry Port Town Council Office for local news and info. Or Burry Port lifeboat House. Or Burry Port Yacht Club, which I just googled and found the following:
Phone

+44 (0)1554 833635

Contact Person Email

aphillips31@talktalk.net

I dont know if that is up to date, but why not call in there and ask locally? There are also the two boatyards , Boathunters and Gower Marine. Not always open, but last time I looked they had contact details on the gates. I'm sure somebody in any of those places will have an idea about what is going on and who you should talk to. Yes, the harbour is quite silted, but every two weeks the tide is high morning and evening, so weather permitting, you have the chance for a day out to Gower or beyond.

Local council might be a good shout.

I've tried the yacht club and the number doesn't work, just like most of the numbers to do with anything around the marina.

Sounds like it's really bad if you're looking at every 2 weeks for a high enough tide to get in and out!

I'm currently waiting on an answer for a swing mooring down Pembroke. Hour and a half drive from Swansea, but at least the boats in the water anytime I feel like taking her out.

If you go to Cardiff yacht club on a Thursday evening you will find they are a friendly bunch. You could also consider a mooring at Dale. If things haven't changed, they are very cheap but you need to lay and maintain it yourself.
Good luck.
Allan

I've ended up at Lawrenny, well I will on the 2nd of Sep when I finally get lifted in. Still a fare distance to drive, but at least its on the water.
I'll keep my name on the list for Swansea though and see how things go.

Burry Port is a no go I'm afraid. For now anyway. The marina company went bankrupt a year ago and the mud has built up to the extent that its impossible for anything with over a foot of draft to get in or out.

The council will be dredging later this year and hopefully the situation will change. My yacht is on the hard there at the moment.
