I'm thinking about sailing to West Scotland this summer and leaving the boat there for the winter. Any recommendations for a mooring during the season and winter storage ashore? I'm not keen on marinas, give me a sheltered mooring in a beautiful spot any day. Anyhow cost comes into it as I will still be paying for my mooring on the Dart. Any suggestions gratefully received!

The "West Coast of Scotland" is about 275 miles as the crow flies, and around 3000 miles as the dinghy rows. It's huge!

There are lots of possibilities for you on the Firth of Clyde, a reasonable number south of Ardnamurchan and a lot fewer further north. How far were you thinking of going? I can recommend a few places, but all Firth of Clyde or further south.

I was going to recommend Linnhe Marine but Webcrafts mooring at Dunstaffnage would be a easier to reach by car or public transport. You will be very lucky to find an isolated mooring in a really sheltered bay even up here these days, the locals are all looking for the same thing. For storage ashore as well as Dunstaffnage you can try Kerrera, Barcaldine or Linnhe marine though a lot of West Coast boats seem to be brought back down to Ardrossan for lift out if the owners live dawn sath, (it must be cheaper than the other Clyde Marinas?) and is reasonably accessible. Reasonably priced winter storage at Cairnbaan, half way through the Crinan Canal with plenty of good cradles, water and power to each boat but the lift is by crane in October and back in about March with masts down and it is the coldest place on Gods earth, if this interests you pm. me for details.
