Here goes for a first post.

All you experienced yachtees, why is a Moody Excel not regarded as a true Moody ??

Any idea why YM's A-Z stated that the Moody Excel had 'disappointing motion in a seaway' ?? Is it that poor that one should cross it off the prospective buy list ?

Don't know much about the 34 excel, but they didn't build / Sell very many. Moodys are build by marine projects in Plymouth. But the excel 34 was an odd ball and build by Prout. Dont think the build quality was as good. I'v only ever seen one and that was for sale at swanwick.

I believe finish was poor, made by prout and not marine projects - looked very plasticy - lighty built compared to a "proper" Moody - would probably consider a 336 or a 346 instead depending if you wanted an aft or centre cockpit - performance probably slightly better on 336 - aft cabin in 346 superb.

I'm not personally familiar with the excel 34, but any centre cockpit boat will have the cockpit higher above the roll axis than an aft cockpit boat, therefore the motion will feel more pronounced in the cockpit.
If you look <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.moody.co.uk/home/index2.htm> here </A> , and click on boat archive, there is a list of all the moody boats made, with specs and layouts etc.
If you fancy the benefits of the centre cockpit breed then there are many to look at in the moody range (excel 34, M35, M36 etc) or if you fancy a slightly more performance oriented boat then the S31 336 would be worth looking at.

Would agree about the rolling axis of a CC boat. Personally I don't like them as you are higher up and more central in the boat . Although they do have there merits of the big aft cabin. Which sells the boat to the ladies.

As said before have a look at the S31 , S336 , S38 range they are aft cockpit boats, although you don't get the big aft cabin with head room, you gain with the larger outside cockpit space and the performance. Our previous boat was an S31 and they are cracking boats to sail !

I wouldn't have said the Moody Excel 34 was not a proper Moody. It was built by Prout, as already said, but Marine Projects built the others so no Moody is actually Moody built. It was less well built that the MP boats and was launched at a time when Moody were about to abandon the small boat world for mini-super yachts.

In fact, all Moody's will now be built by Halmatic; Moody and Marine Project's having parted company.

There are some Swanwick built Moody's around, arn't there ?, remember talking to them in the early 80's regarding switch gear. Went to see them and went aboard a new Moody being fitted out in the sheds, think they stopped making the large boats there not long after though.

Moody/Fisher

All Moody production, I understand, is transfering to Halmatic, Moody used to fit out hulls at Swanwick - Halberdiers, Grenadiers, Carbineers, etc, but havn't for a number of years.
Yes, I have heard Northshore are stopping production of the Fishers but I haven't confirmed it yet.
