The mast on my Moody 376 is going to be taken down for maintenance work in a few days time. The crane guy has asked how it is fixed at the foot. It looks as if it will just lift off once the stays are released, and that there are no actual attachments, but it is not easy to see. Can anyone tell me?

(The mast foot is similar to other Moody yachts of the late 1980's, so experience with one of these would also be helpful).

My 1988 Moody 336 had a large stainless pin through the mast step which had to be removed before lifting the mast. It was obvious it was there, I am surprised by the absence of anything similar on the 376.

Thanks Skysail, that is helpful. I can see the pin there, but thought it was just to stop the mast moving forwards and backwards, and was not actually connected to it.

If it must be removed, it is difficult to see how to get out the split pin holding it, which is virtually buried under the mast.

I have an 80's Moody 41 with the mast base looking like this - mast.jpg with the bolts just there for fore/aft location.

(the wooden plinth is just because the mast is a little shorter now.)
