Moody 31, Fulmar, Sadler 32

Not sailed the Sadler or the Fulmar, would like either.

The M31 is very good but the wheel version rather than tiller which is rather heavy in only moderate airs to windward, this apart they are excellent boats, also handle well ahead and astern under power. Fin keel for performance.

Be lucky to get one for the figure you mention though, they were about £44K in 1989,and hold their price pretty well.

If racing oriented sailing, the Moody336 is a superb boat and worth the extra beer tokens in performance, and comforts below including showers and aft cabin.

M336 is wheel and fin keel.

The Moody requires that you reef early to keep loads off the tiller - she doesn't like being sailed heeled over. It doesn't affect speed - on the Moody, if you're leaning over very much, you're losing speed. I haven't seen a Moody 31 with wheel steering (it is a fairly uncommon option) but I have heard that it significantly reduces the height over the berth in the aft cabin. I'd also say that it is unnecessary.

PS, the aft cabin is very comfortable; banish the kids to the fore-cabin and keep the aft one for yourselves!

Well, it took a massive 27 hours from posting a free advert of my Parker 27 on apollo duck until completeing the sale of it, must be some kind of record, so i am now looking very seriously so if anyone knows of a nice twin fulmar or moody (think i am leaning towards the moody) then let me know. And thanks all for the info.

I had a Moody 31 mk 2 for 3 years. Fantastic quality. Mine was fin and wheel. Nice combo. I now have a Fulmar, 1990 boat. No osmosis as epoxied from new. Much better sailing boat than the Moody but quality no as good. Headlings needed work. Lots of space and storage but no separate aft cabin. However it feels much bigger than the Moody. Looked at Sadlers before getting the Fulmar as they are cheaper. Sorry Sadler owners but I thought the quality not as good as Moody or Fulmar. Mind you I couldn't find a well looked after one. The Fulmar cockpit is HUGE. Room for 6 easily.

If room isn't a priority I'd go for the Moody. A later one will cost you c35k. A Fulmar c28-32k for a later model in good nick. Mind, lots are tatty. Look long and hard.
