I have noticed in some posts, when referring to the price of something, a question mark has been placed in front of the value in numbers, eg ?250. What does this mean ? pounds, dollars, euros, etc. ?

Email was originally a 7-bit system which used the ASCII code, which does not include the British pound sign, and an attempt to use it will produce a question mark or a blank. Many email systems are now 8-bit and will transmit the extended character set, but it is still safer to use the standard currency abbreviations UKP, USD, etc.
