Am familiar with most of the rather confusing Aquafibre based boat conversions including those done by Broom and the Ocean,Crown versions etc but where does the 12M Monarch fit in.
Who built it and why so few around.
Couple up for sale both with decent sized engine options.
Comments welcome.

Broom built the monarch but in small numbers, rolled like a pig but didn't chine ride as Broom didn't dare fit big engines in those days, last ones had Volvo 306 in, the ocean 42 a similar hull. They also used the monarch hull on the Ocean 40 which was Brooms answer to a Princess 435, again a low volume model. Personally I'd buy a more modern early 90s 37/39

My uncle has one and uses it as a mid-week liveaboard. I have only been on it a couple of times and never at sea but massive interior accommodation. Seems to be a lot of variation in layout, he was keen to get the permanent 4 berth with doubles fore and aft which he did. The Saloon has a large semi circular dinette and the galley is U-shaped forward of the saloon. His has the 306 Volvos I think. Huge quality in mouldings and joinery, and I presume the usual broom mechanical standards.

Of the ones currently for sale I would prefer the 2 x doubles layout, the others look a bit old fashioned to me. Would be a great boat for channel hop to European canals. Uncle did mention that it rolled beam on but that must be expected in a high sided SD boat. I think the Ocean 42 shares same hull but the quality of fit is not comparable.

Spot on for what have in mind.
One up for sale a very short hop across the channel. Attractive asking price compared to any UK boat at the moment. Not sure of layout but not overly bothered.
Broom owner site very useful.
As for bit roly poly, most of its life will be in sheltered inshore waters, above locks and the very occasonal channel dash.
Grace rather than pace, :)
