Icicles. Blimey. Doesn't bear thinking about. I consider myself a wuss and bow in the face of your considerable hardness. Now, you see we're so used to doing the poverty stricken thing we hadn't considered staying in a marina for the night. Duh. Yes the squids will stretch to that, even maybe to the roaring fire in a local hostelry. Gillingham Marina here we come...failing that will crack hatches open, cuddle up and lie very still.

Marina life tho'. Scary - might get used to the luxury and demand HWMO buys me a 51' Island Packet...

Get behind me demon! Tempt me not with thy talk of the warmth of marinas, the proximity of hot showers, toilets which don't block when you so much as look at them, restaurants, pubs...oh, sod it, I'd love to. Santa Teresa is on the Medway at the mo' tho', but will be bringing her down our way over the Spring, planning our first big trip as we speak. She'll be gleaming and tooled up after a winter's hard work on her. We had thought of Brighton marina but apart from the cost there's just so little to do in a days' sailing from here. Well, nothing at all really (waiting for yells of indignation to fly my way..!). Sail up the coast, sail down the coast, back to Brighton. We're thinking Chi instead, lots of pottering afforded there. Anyway, still havn't really decided - though the difference for us between £150 at Chi for drying and about £1300 at Brighton is not inconsiderable.

And sir, you are too kind - I've been called many things in life but never a heroine! Just like the outdoorsy life, really, being outside. Helps with my writing.

The icicles were an unexpected Easter present, not recommended at all! I wouldn't get away with that these days.

Even with the heater going, leave an inch of forehatch and mainhatch open or you will still see some condensation and may wake up with a headache (non booze induced).

Don't forget you will need a shorepower lead as well as the heater! You might need also to change one end of same to a 3 pin socket for the fan heater until or unless you have shorepower set up on board.

We are going to Yarmouth IOW tonight and have booked in on a pontoon with power for the same reason, we only do that if its cold early/late season.

Have a great weekend.

Have you considered using a small wood/coal fired stove with chimney going through deck, this will give you ventilation and heat and will remove the water created by combustion. Main problems are the expense of obtaining a stove, time to install and storage space for wood/coal. Coal is better than wood. I lived a long time ago in a trappers cabin in the Yukon, whatever I did the wood stove burnt through by about 2am and getting up to feed it with wood was a bore and very cold!

After reading a lot of comments and advices, I wonder why none supposes to provoke condensation where it can be acceptable. Since a simple piece of SS placed in the hatch or so, isolates less than the GRP roof, the condensation starts there. If this piece is mounted in a small angle, the water drips to one side. There you can let it flow to the place you like. (you find the same idea in an automatic fridge)
Since the humidity of the air in the cabin is reduced, no condensation will be found on the roof. Takes no energy (exept for making this thing), cheap, closes off the cabin.
(hope it works!)
