Modern boats - no wet locker - what's that all about?

Our 1998 Jeanneau had a tiny wet locker behind the heads/shower cubicle, in the front end of the large cockpit locker. it was useless: no heat and too shallow to hang a pair of salopettes. I took it out and fitted coat hooks in what is now a climb through locker. Wet foulies are dried by hanging them from the shower rail with the Eberspacher going and a port cracked open. Dry foulies go in the locker. Much better solution.

There is shown on this plan a wet locker in the loo. however it did not appear on our boat and I have no idea if it was in any of them.
Neither was there a knife and fork drawer, since rectified!
Otherwise great boat but, yes, agree wet oilskins dripping in the one loo do make it uncomfortable whilst they are dripping, so commiserations, and sorry for being so tardy in seeing this thread!

We have an average AWB without a wet locker. I have put a rail across the shower and hang them there - lots and lots of room and they get well aired, unlike most traditional wet lockers. On the odd occasion when we shower onboard, I move them into the saloon.

Hang 'em in the heads. If we want a shower, chuck 'em up under the spray hood 'til finished in the shower!

My boat has a nice wet locker with a heat outlet and a drain.

But it's not all that extremely useful, I have to admit. First of all, although I sail a lot (50+ sea days a year for the last three years) and year round, I rarely sail in the rain. I guess maybe less than 10 days total in 150+ days over the last three years.

Secondly, the wet locker is not big enough to hold more than two sets of wet foulies with enough air space between them to dry at all.

Third, I only run the Eber in cold weather, and wouldn't start it just to dry out the wet locker.

So it is a good place to store a couple sets of foulies but not much more than that, in the realistic use in my hands anyway.

I think if your boat has a separate shower (and/or a second heads compartment), that is a perfectly adequate wet locker, and probably better than a dedicated one.
