Well unless you do £40 top ups it is 36p a minute, and roaming with my UK sim costs 35p a minute. I haven't compared the data costs but the only place we went to where either affordable wifi was not available was Arcachon.

Just found this company on the internet www.lefrenchmobile.com. I think the rates look quite good but i've not done that much research. If anyone knows of a better deal i'd be pleased know before spring.

Look at Vodafones standard UK offering and add the europe data and Europe calls. Their data is 25mb per day at £5 per month.

Last year I used in Greece a dongle with a wind card with 1 GB per month for €19. This is far better - I don't use anything like 25MB per day, and I now don't bother with a laptop, I just use my HTC phone which does everything I want.

I make almost no local calls in Greece, and I would prefer my children to be able top ring me for nothing, so when they do call me it costs me just £1 for however long the call it, as opposed to a 0.37p per minute charge.

In France currently using our £5 Orange sim card. Calls are 36p a minute, text messages 11p. To receive a call its 10p a minute and to receive texts its free. Our £5 Orange sim came with £5 airtime. I know there is an orange shop here that we looked at: Charging 9 Euros for a sim and similar rates as we get from UK.

I use an Orange data sim in a MIFI, €5 for 70MB over 7 days. Probably not the cheapest but easy to use and topup for a weekend trip. Stopped using the MIFI now as the Tab will create it's own hotspot.
