Ref the earlier Vodafone dongles without the 30 day time period - The offer is still valid for existing customer with those dongles. Would it apply to future top ups bought for that dongle?

Yes, that is my understanding of the reply that I received from Vodafone, in which they referred to my K3565 USB modem. 1 Gb for £15.
I'd get one if you can.

naw, dont use it as a modem, ie the #99* lark. My HTC touch has a function in the accessories whereby you use the phone to "connect" to the internet thru the unlimited orange connection.

for info, orange give/gave me "unlimited" BB on the new HTC I had off them last year as part of my package. Prior to that I was paying £5 a month for "unlimted" Inet connection.

That's what we've got, I use it all the time as we live aboard. However, they don't offer that tariff to new customers anymore - it was a bit of a sneaky one when it was around anyway, as it was supposed to be for their MiFi thing, but you could get them to connect you to it SIM-only.

All sounds a lot of fuss when you could just get an Iphone. £35 gets you truly unlimited browsing and more phone minutes and text than a teenager can handle! Surely by the time you have your mobile phone, dongle etc. you might as well just pay a little more and get the real thing?

If you only use your old payg Vodaphone dongle on the boat, be wary that the contract expires if you don't use it for 180 days.

I only spend £35 a year on mobile calls so perhaps that is a bit over the top, and we are still on the first Vodaphone £10.

Agurney; Do you have a quick link to the software? I've been using a T-Mobile package whilst back in the UK. The dongle was 19 quid, with a 10 quid top up, and you got 3GB for 30 days for 2 quid. I guess the other 8 quid runs for 4 more days and then you have to top up again. It expires in 90 days if no further top up is done. Now, I'm back overseas I'd would like to see if I can run the dongle with my local SIM card. However, wading through the Huawei website I can't find anything that stands out as the driver software for my dongle.

Dont need one of those, Orange contract, costs me £28 a month, HTC Touch 3g, runs windows so I can run my Maptech charting, run Route 66 car navigation, run Belfield so I can see tide times, it allows me free unlimited Internet on the phone, free broadband at home, for an extra fiver I get VOIP thru the free livebox so free calls thru that, plus 400 mins on the mobile plus texts (whats those?)
Im as happy as can be and I dont have to wander around like a wazzock, compelled to show off my Iphone!

Nope, got a good deal on the landline at home, and excellent pay as you go package on the mobile. On the other hand though I do not feal the need to be talking to some one all the time.

I bought a Vodaphone 3g dongle last August for £45, it came with 15gb and was supposed to expire after 6 months.. still not used it all, but still works fine.
On the boat in salcombe it is very slow, as not a 3g area, but plenty good enough to browse for important info.
I would not be without the dongle, very useful when in a tight spot for work and need to send emails.

Hear hear! I used an iPhone for 19 months, paid £99 for the handset and £35 a month for 18 months. 300 mins, 300 texts, unltd mobile data. Just replaced it with a HTC Hero paying £126 for the handset and... £10 a month for 24 months. 100 mins, 100 texts, a free add-on (either unlimited landline calls, unlimited texts, unlimited T-Mob to T-Mob, or £5 worth of Europe calls/texts), free unlimited mobile data. Hero beats iPhone for funciontality, but in addition, you do the maths!
