After clearing out Triple ace and putting all my things in boxes, I've just found £50.00 of vouchers that I was given as a christmas present..

Obviously they are no longer valid.....

Thank you MMS for everything you didn't do......

Hold on to them Simon, if they invent a Time Machine in your lifetime you can go back and spend them. Otherwise have them framed and put them on the wall of your study.

I found some in my boat and did my best to spend them with the Espar but they declined.....

I wonder whether Kim and Co will take them in return for magazine subscriptions??

I've decided the next £50.00 of boating things I buy will not be at the ex MMS outlets.

They could have offer to take them as a percentage in the pound. ie like a discount.

I totally agree with you.
Both Nauticalia and Espar could have earned a lot of goodwill if theyd offered to redeem spend and save vouchers as a 10% discount against further purchases.

I ended up chucking them away after being told by Espar that they would not accept them despite spending thousands............

I will try not to think too much about it to preserve the status quo of my internal organs.

I ended up with more £50.00 quids worth left over your lucky that's all you have, but face it would you honour a vouchure from a previously bankrupt company when you couldn't quantify the liability /forums/images/icons/wink.gif. Yes it pigs us all off, but remember it's nothing to do with Espar or Nauticalia and the vouchure were a freebe it's not as if you paid for them.

The crew at Espar in Marlow are as helpful as ever, can't fault them.

Fair points Peter and I too found the Espar Marlow boys helpful and attentive although rather pricey.

Since moving boat to South Coast maintenace charges per hour are less but the snag is I am buying many more hours.......

Bit of a trade off from the sound of it, either pay high hourly rate but job done quick and well to justify it or low rate and slow service to clock up the hours to charge you????

We'll see how they get on as Espar this year, got my drive and annual engine service to have done to keep the warenty. Will report on the web site how I get on, but I have every confidence at this stage.

Sorry Peter what I really meant was that using my boat under greater load and possibly more hours on the coast than river I seem to be requiring more hours worth of spanner work during this first coastal season.

I actually receive excellent service from a local engineer at a considerable saving on the Thames rates that I had previously paid for.

I do hope that this is just a period of "bedding in" and we do seem to be getting there.

Whilst your angst is, perhaps, understandable it is not rational and may have self destructive connotations/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

The fact that MMS went belly up or whatever was not the fault of Nauticalia or Espar so any form of sanction you may invoke aagainst them is really unfair.

My issue with the new guys is simply that I think (IMHO only) they missed a trick by not dreaming up some way to pacify and woo holders of Spend and Save Vouchers by way of a discount against future purchases which would have encouraged purchasing as well as generating goodwill from their customer base.
On the other hand, they may have decided that at Shepperton and Harleyford they have a largely captive customer base in the marinas who, however much they might grumble, would continue to shop local cos its there when they need it. Hard hearted commercial decision but probably largely correct/forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

The internet has brought us all enormous benifits in purchasing power but has also resulted in extremely difficult trading conditions for retail outlets with large stocks of slow moving goods which tends to very much include chandleries.

Its just another case of this Bl&*y awful thing we call the marine industry.

They rip us off everyway we look.

oh yes.. the comment about new business nothing to do we MMS. same stock??? same staff??? quite a lot of stuff changed hands and my guess is it changed hands at below cost. so why not change at a discount the cash vouchers that had been bought?

too late now for the vouchers and its too late now for Espar and Naticalia to get any of my cash.

I'd rather drive to aladdin cave or marine superstore, better stock, cheaper prices

I will probably regret this!

I hate to see people ripped off as well.

I tell you what, and remember we are in no way associated with MMS, ESpar etc, so we don't have to do this. How about if I offered you 2.5% discount with a total discount upto the voucher value against stuff buy from us.

Offer open to all MMS voucher holders. I'll even allow Nick2 this offer even though he binned the vouchers!

MMS data protection and stuff

I was thinking the ex - nothing to do with us use-to-be MMS, still has the MMS computer with all our details on it.

So if they know who we are and the boats etc they know how much they owe all of us.

I hope they transfered the data in accordance with the Data protection act. because I certainly didn't authorise my name to be released to them?

Now, Simon, if you were better organised and had more respect for money, this would never have happened. Don't blame MMS /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Oh dear Arthur, some will say you are being a trifle harsh but I fear you are basically correct.
Many is the time I have gazed upon my MMS Save and Spend Voucher for £40 and castigated myself for being so dilatory over cashing it in. With hindsight, I should have realised 'summink was oop', as Haydn would say, when I had to chase them several times before I received it. When it did finally arrrive I kept forgetting to take it with me when I went shopping until......too late , and really all my own fault fror not grabbing what was offered while it was still available.

Whilst prattling away, I applaud yachtbits for stepping into the breach but Im afraid two and a half percent wont be anything like enough for me to throw any business his way......./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
