I am looking at a boat that offers MMC engine sync control.
Again the saleman does not know anything about it.
As I understand it - it means that one lever can control both cengines and sync them - correct?
What is the normal mode of operation for such controls? How do you get the one engine to be a slave to the other?

S orry to ask all these questions but the fact is that the folks selling boats do not really understand all these features.

Not familailar with the MMC units, but yes you normally press a button/ pull a lever and then both engines controlled by one of the levers.

What engines does the boat have, are they electronically controlled diesels, i.e. Volvo Kad 44's or similar. If so, then they are syncronised through the electronics. The black box's compare the revs and trim one engine to match the other.
You will have conventional independant levers for each engine, but when you press the SYNC button they operate together from just one lever.
Know what you mean about salesmen, I just can't understand how they are allowed to sell complex equipment without some basic knowledge of function and operation. I personally won't let a boat go out until the customer knows what every knob and button does, if he's bought a new boat or had a new engine fitted.

TAMD 122P with MMC controls.

I am guessing now that there is a button somewhere I press then move the slave engine lever to submit to the mater then control with just the one master. Right?

I had EDC control on a couple of KAD44's a while back. The technique was to power up on both levers synchronising the rpm approximately, then press the Sync button and the electronics would match the rpm exactly. I dont think you can press the sync button and then use one lever only

With the synch option installed the output from the actuators is synchronised when the levers are within 5% of each other and you are going forward at above idle speed. The green light will flicker then go solid when synch is achieved. synch will be disengaged when one lever is moved out of the range >
For a more complete explanation pm me for a system manual.

Hi Paul, yes if its Volvo and you have SYNC function (its not always standard) then you have a blue button which you press to engage\disengage this function. I believe it only works within a small rev band, if you exceed it, then it drops out and reverts to individual control, so you can't drive around using just one lever.
I still think its more fun and challenging to syncronise engines by ear, as rev counters can be inaccurate. Still the electronics will do it for you in this day and age.
