Just before the quay where the big boats go there is, or was 2 years ago, to port a bit of a marina type place. There was a yellow barge of sorts there and the marina owner let 2 of us moor there overnight FOC. against the barge. This was better than mooring against the quay as the barge went up and down with the tide whereas I don't think the quay did.
We could dry out, but I cannot remember if we did as we were well taken with the local hospitality. As we arrived I got carried away with thinking, I don't draw very much, and then was confused by the actions of a dredger getting in my way with the result we went onto the mud bank to starboard. So watch out for it if you go, the current sweeps you onto it. And that was before we had a drink!
PS let us know what you find if you go please.
Good luck. Paul
Thks for info. I am looking to moor up for a couple of hours & walk up to Manningtree and the excellent pub that overlooks the river (& who's name escapes me at present!). For the last few years we have just moored up at the quay - occasionally alongside a Thames Barge. The quay itself is not in too good a state but with plenty of fenders we've managed to keep our tubes intact! My concern is whether the recent residential development has changed things. Guess I'll find out over the coming weekend! Will report back findings.
Update for thems thats interested. Its still possible to moor alongside at Mistley Quay and the walk to the Crown Hotel at Manningtree is well worth it for food and drink!
Any idea how much water there is at Low Water? Do you know whether there is more depth at one end? I had heard of talk of a marina development at the place I mentioned, just before the quay to Port. Was there any sign of any activity?
I will probably head up there at some stage this season.
Regards. Paul
Absolutely bugger all I'dve thought! From the best of my recollection there is only any depth for a couple of hours either side of HT. (& I'm in a RIB so only draw half a metre or so). No sign of any marina development at Mistley Marine (the place you refer to). Half the old maltings now developed as flats but no restrictions on the quay. Still the same piles of granite kerbstones there that were there last year!
