Why was he sailing in N Atlantic at that time of the year. Should have been tied up in a harbour somewhere, or in the caribbean. Says he had come from Turkey so perhaps he was on his way home. But why 150 miles offshore in the first place? Surely one would come closer to land or even up the channel to get to Russia. If clearing Ireland after Spain & portugal he would not have needed to be that far ofshore-- would he?

Are you talking about his first shipwreck or the second (and final) one?
Sounds like this time he had only got a short distance after leaving Ullapool. Certainly not 150 nm offshore nor in what would generally be considered the North Atlantic but rather the Minch.
