Hello All

01/09/2005: S/V Marsal, a 45' steel hulled Van Der Stadt design of South African registry. It is Beige in color, hard chine with aft cockpit and white deck. It has a transom mounted Ares wind vane. The vessel has marine VHF and may have marine SSB on board.

There is a single hander on board, a 63 year old male named Martin Mynhardt. He is slim built, 5' 10" tall and has white hair.
He was last heard from on 24 December as he made telephone contact from Power Boats Marina in Trinidad, preparing to go north to St Maarten. He indicated he would call from Bequia on 28 December, but did not make that call. He has not been heard from since 24 December.

Anyone locating or contacting this vessel is to ask Mr Mynhardt to call home right away, or contact Tony Brewer (868-620-7562 in Trinidad until 12 January, and in St Maarten after then at 599-553-4475. Please alert Tony Brewer and Eric Mackie at 9Z4cp@tstt.net.tt or mobil phone 868-686-2716.

sad news. of course we'll never know what really happened as no one will do a forensic examination of the boat but a MOB seems the most likely. i recall the same happening in the 1976 OSTAR with galloping gael. must be the most scary feeling in the world to fall over and see the boat sailing itself away from you.
