I hate to comment in this way on a thread where someone may possibly be a lost soul on the inland waterways but do you not think that it would be better to make your posts less official sounding ? . Police need to locate the boat ( first ) and the man who hired her ( second ) makes it sound like you're after a thief first , and a victim second . Might be better to say you're concerned for the welfare of the man that hired a lump of inanimate material , and not some thieving sod has nicked a boat that's worth £XXXXX

IMHO the wording implies no priority as to the boat or the man.
