Some more detail and pics of M5 for those interested. First, our thanks to JoeV for inviting us to see her and taking time out to show us around. I got the impression Joe has shown plenty of people -friends, contacts, potential charter clients etc -around her, but we were probably the most difficult because we wanted to see all the behinds-scene stuff right down to the bilges etc
M5 is quite awesome in scale. It's hard to describe the size and the pics perhaps dont show it. Our first sight of it was when we were still on the 3 lane motorway section of the A3M approaching portsmouth. When you can first see the spinnaker tower thing, look to the left, there is M5's white mast. A good pic is the one in Nov 04 issue of showboats which shows Hyperion and M5 berthed close by. Hyperion was the word's biggest sloop when launched in 1998, but the top of her mast is level with the halfway point between M5's 3rd and 4th sets of spreaders. See also the pic below with someone standing on the boom
Her interior is classic and beautiful. Very yacht-like with much teak and cherry satin varnished, quite different from several of the 50m+ sailboats that have non yachty interior themes based on manhattan apartments or something, with Wenge floors and fireplaces or whatever.
There's (relatively) much space given to engineering gear and non-accommodation. A huge aft garage that takes a Hinkley picnic boat, and a huge 2-deck high workshop under the foredeck (under the forward tenders that stow under flush hatches), and a stowage hold in front of that. In fact there's no accommodation forward of roughly the front of the coachroof.
The skydeck (not sure of the nautical term? flybridge?) is a fabulous party-in-the-sun space with a beautiful teak deck laid with diagonally scarfed joints
Some pix:
The guy on the boom (Capt Johnno) gives some idea of scale

This is the "entrance loddy", starboard side
The workshop under the foredeck (and Tome, who wanted to move in)
