Just find an identical boat in the marina and swap them over when noones looking.Obviously check theres no scratches on the newe one.

Ive done it loads of times and no one notices.

But it all depends how much and where its placed !!!! Didn't appear to be around the keel area recently on one !!!!

Sorry to disapoint some - but watched a new demo Bav 44 get launched the other day ....... mmmmm sort of noticed a bit of flexing in the slings when lifted off the cradle ..... we won't dwell on that just made me a little nervous .......

Middle aged sort of a bloke, a jock I think. A bit of a fussy sort I heard them talking about getting his boat scrubbed but it was very clean when I looked at it.

Hi all an update on the repair. Went down there yesterday afternoon and must say he's done a pretty good job EXCEPT I can see the repair. It's darker than the hull and my mate says it will fade to the same colour. Is this true?

Och you've fallen on yer feet. The Jockanese are awfie nice parteecularly if there's drink involved. Jist explain ye were peed oot yer heid when ra wee bash happent and you went doon ra pub wi' yer mate tae discuss it and jist went back and fixt it. Jock MacTavish will be full o' understandin' . This will then be an appropriate point to ask for your out of pocket expenses. Remember to keep receipts (partic bar ones) as he will wish to check before parting with dosh. These Scots gits are ticht!

The colour question

Just smear a bit of sump oil over the repair. The owner will think he picked it up off of dirty fenders or a dock wall, will clean it off and then discover that the tar has stained a bit of jellokote. "Gosh and darn" he will say to himself "I'll have to try and sort that out over the winter."

Not the slings !!!

I didn't mean the slings .......

The hull itself exhibited signs of flex, OK at 44ft you cannot expect girder like stiffness - its NOT designed to be - but I was a little concerned about the start of lifting when the keel appeared NOT to move and also .... the eye which is a remarkable instrument ..... detected a twist to the hull on take up !!

I wasn't actually going to detail the flex as I don't want to get into a debate about it .... but it was there.

Aside from the posts that are obviously wind-ups, and assuming that your unfortunate prang and posts are genuine, I can't quite believe that you've:

A) Caused damage to someone else's boat and not owned up when you had the opportunity.

B) Knowingly let a third party carry out a repair without the owner knowing.

C) Now seem content to leave a sub-standard repair to "fade" to the same colour.

I'm no saint (far from it) but your behaviour is totally disgraceful. If I were the owner of the boat and found out, I'd enquire about the possibility of criminal damage charges against you and your friend.

You're right and I feel I've let everyone down, but it just spiralled out of control after my initial hesitation.
