Mini Globe Race.

Adam on Little Wren has hooked into the currents and is absolutely flying. A 160nm 24 hour run on a 19ft boat is eye opening.
I think he has the record for the most miles in one day in the class. Thought he was going to improve his position but I suppose the extra distance has scuppered that. At least he avoided the often nasty winds and seas off Cartagena and Baranquilla. I've given that area a wide berth the twice I passed by.

First boat has 11 miles to go at 0800 position report.

Few more this morning. Now they've got to get the boats trucked across to the Pacific side.

The plans for getting across Panama seem to change a bit. Last I heard they had someone modifying a couple of trailers so the boats could be transported with the keels on.

From what I've read on the posts from Antigua, the spreader problems are mostly solved with also some sail plan advice too.

I spoke to Adam...Little Wren....before they left here. He thought that there was gonna be one lorry to take 4 boats at a time. Masts off is easy. However, I'm also aware of the different space/ time continuum that Panama works in so that could easily change. :)

Had a peek at Facebook. Lots of memories! Looks like the one that went through must have been doing an alongside tow with a bigger yacht. The electric outboards on the 580s wouldn't have got them far or enabled the required speed of 6 or 7 knots.

Great experience!!

At least 3 of the boats are across, Immortal Game, Peter Punk and Capuchinette. Seems a pretty nervous transfer for the skippers, especially since the trailers look a bit sketchy.

Seems Shelter Bay doesn't have enough small cradles to get all the boats out in one go which is slowing things up a little.

Thank goodness I'm not part of this because the stress levels would kill me. :)

Ah but you could wander round Fort Sherman, find the casemate for the disapearing guns, look out for howler monkeys, watch large ants carring larger leaves, go through the menu at the bar, catch the marina bus over to Colon, etc etc.

But on the third day..... :)

I met Mrs S in Shelter Bay too......except we are married and she arrived via a couple of flights and a taxi. Minus luggage the airline lost. Turned up 2 days later. I was delivering a yacht from The Canaries to a marina on the west side of Panama so she joined us for the Canal transit and on up to the marina.
