Hi

I'm based at Penton Hook and soon will be changing the oil in my BMW Mercruiser engines. I previously bought Valvoline Premium Blue 7800 from Steve at Chertsey Marine but sadly Chertsey Marine no longer exists. I looked at the Linden Lewis website in Shepperton but they only seem to stock Synthetic and Semi-synthetic oils.

Can anyone recommend a good supplier of mineral based diesel engine oil for older boat engines ?

Glen

Many thanks for your suggestions really appreciated.

Looking around Penton Hook Marina a great deal of the boats look as old as mine Pre 1990 so I assume many owners are buying non synthetic type oil locally - any advice where?

Otherwise the Shell Rimula looks interesting

I always buy online for home delivery .
You can no doubt get the Valvoline Premium Blue if that's what you prefer
I have no hesitation in recommending Shell Rimula R4X (or RT4X) assuming 15w-40 is the correct spec for your engines. I have that in my kad32's now having changed the oil recently.
But I have also used Smith and Allan in the past .
I would have used Mannol oil as per last year except it was sold out .

No real need to pay fancy prices.
Any motor factor who supplies the lorry trade. Usually found lurking on any big trading estate in the land. Mineral fleet oil around £50-60 pounds per 20L ,if its good enough for a 150.000 miles lorry it might just be OK for 50 hour a year Mercruisers.
That ebay stuff is also delivered to your front door.

Once again many thanks for your recommendations, I think I'll try the Shell Rimula, the Valvoline Steve sold was handy as it was in the marina.

I was going to get some Mannol oil recently but have seen a complaint from the uk lubricants watchdog VLS concerning Mannols failure to meet certain specifications in lubricant oil. This is for a high specification vw oil so not related to boating but it does put into question the overall quality control of the company.

VLS Files Complaint Against Mannol - Lubes'N'Greases

For the avoidance of doubt that refers to one particular manufacturers spec in one particular oil , not to all products.

.

I've just had 20L of Shell Rimula delivered this morning :)

Many thanks for all those who contributed to my question
