After a visit to Skomer last year I really fancy the idea of going back under sail with the family.

Anyone aware of anyone doing bareboat chartering out of Milford Haven? Have tried Pembrokeshire cruising- but as of this year they are only doing skippered charters, and googles not turning anything else up.

I don’t know of any bareboat sail charter options here at Milford, now Pembrokeshire cruising have downsized and are concentrating more on their RYA training courses.
There have been a couple of yachts in recent years who advertised skippered charter, but they were probably aiming at day trips tbh.

There are a couple of Mobo Gin Palaces that have charter websites on their flybridge, but it could be more of an accounting write down thing than actual boat for hire.

There might be someone in Neyland marina who does sail bareboat, I don’t know if you included there in your googling?

I visited a few years ago on ours when we were based there. IIRC you are not allowed ashore and even so finding somewhere to anchor! We dropped the hook in a bay on the south end. Poor holding iirc, just pebbles and big stones. Tides and weather need to be spot on.

Thanks all for the suggestions. @Beneteau381 - I believe there are mooring balls in the north harbour now (near where the day trip boats unload) from where you can go ashore (though have to pay a landing fee)

There are 4 daytime visitor moorings in Skomer N Haven, but there is no one policing them overnight. Their real purpose is to discourage anchoring too far in to the bay.
Edit: the post below has a guide to landing on Skomer from your own boat

I have never tried anchoring in any of the tiny bays at the Southern end of the island, they offer virtually no shelter from weather and the huge tides.
There is an anchorage in South Haven, and I have never struggled with holding from half way in, to up towards the top.

If you are staying overnight in either Haven between April to August while the birds are nesting, it’s important to get LOTS of light up into your rigging, not just a single anchor light. The ‘twang thud’ of nighttime flyers getting injured or worse is frequent and very upsetting when you find the bodies in the morning. I’ve even considered some little battery powered disco lights hoisted up on halyards to keep the birds away.
