.. Which is quietest?

Does anyone have experience of both makes?

The application is for a small pilot house boat so we're only talking the smallest unit (approx. 2kw with perhaps 2, but more probably 1 outlet)

If the heater is installed in the engine compartment, a lot of the noise will be absorbed by the insulation in there. The secret to truly quiet operation of warm air heaters is to fit a process air silencer in the main warm air duct - this will reduce the fan noise dramatically and the heater will be almost inaudible in the cabin.

Yes, I am an ofical dealer / service centre for both so hve no axe to grind with eaier, they are both good at what they do but the Webasto is quiter, easier to service and set up and has more control options, I see about the same level of breakdowns on both when adjusted for the number of installs I have done or the customers who already own them so little to choose there. You say "small pilotohouse" please be more specific on size (particularly volume rather than lengthand the areas you wish to heat, what seasons you expext to be using it and above all, what are your expectations of it?

I've had both in different boats. Probably Webasto is quieter, but Mikuni is cheaper. If buying a Mikuni do get the silencer for the air intake, it makes a huge difference.

Heater exhausts on other boats aren't that noticeable if you're enclosed in your own cabin though.

Some exhausts in Shotley marina sound as though they are running up the jet engine prior to take off. Common courtesy to minimise your boat noise after dark.

Ah, they'll be Mikunis...

More likely used unsilenced ex BT Ebers;), the quietest heater on our (& Pete's) pontoon including mine is (was, gone now) a Mikini MY30 with a standard Mikuni silencer, I thought it was a Wallas when I first heared it. I am always surprised just how quiet they are with a silencer but this particular one was really quiet.

mine has the original webbo silencer & not that quiet at start up

Which origional so silencer, the long cylindrical marine one, or the van one? most stuff makes a bit of noise when sparking up, even Wallas sometimes, Really after all is said and done they are a furnace with forced combustion (Wallas less so) so silent is not how they are as a base thing so you have to shut them up a bit.

quietest

If this forum is to be believed an Eberspacher will be quietest (due to it having the greatest proportion of downtime)
