Have just treated myself to a Mikuni blown-air heater off eBay. Was rather cheap so fingers crossed it works ok.
I have a copy of the operating manual, thanks very to David of this parish, but it's a bit lacking in details when it comes to installation.
One specific question I have is the best way to route the exhaust- I presume there is a maximum length that it can be, and a best practice for location and any loops etc that should be incorporated.

Secondly, might it be possible to fit some sort of remote startup system? Not a fancy SMS controlled thing, just a second 'on' switch that I could reach from my bunk in the forecabin. I could of course just put the controller beside my bunk but I believe it incorporates the thermostat, which I would prefer to have in the saloon.

Lastly, any advice on running the wiring to the batteries, and best way to run the ducting, would also be useful.

Thanks

You could try contacting Mikuni UK to see if installation manual available http://www.mikuniheating.com/contact.cfm

It is possible to add a remote switch, I did it with an MY30 on our Berwick with a time delay relay but can't remember the details.

Thanks, I've just emailed them so will what they say.
A switch ŵithin arms-reach of my bunk would be great. Had that one the previous boat and it was very civilised.

And, very promptly, Mikuni have just provided me with the installation manual :)
Good service, so far, especially as I haven't given them any money directly...

They're really helpful, so you've probably figured it out by now. But in case useful I'd happily email you the wiring dia for 'remote off' which is what our installation is.

It may seen a backwards way of looking at it, but possibly the simplest would be to have a 'remote off' switch. You'd site it adjacent to your berth, so on going to bed you leave the heater running at the main control and then turn it off last thing with the remote off switch. On waking, you can simply switch it back on with the same settings as the night before.

image.jpgHeater arrived today. Trying to make sense of it. It doesn't have the control box with the rotary dial and LEDs etc- I can get one for £50 from Mikuni though, so not the end of the world. There is a completely blank black box, I have no idea what that does.
Will try to attach a photo...

That looks like an ex vehicle or welfare unit heater and I think the small box is a restriction timer similar to the ones Eber used on the BT vans.

Thanks David, hopefully it will be OK, as I said it was fairly cheap!
Will it be possible to get it up and running as-is? I'd like to at least check it out to see if it's worth spending time and money on.

If it's all OK you seem to have all you need from the photo, assuming the component just out of shot at the top is the ECU, you should be able to spark it up without a control unit using a simple switch. If Steve has sent you the wiring schematic then you should have no issues with that.

Thanks, I will look into it over the weekend. I take it I would find it beneficial to at some point upgrade to the more usual control box.

Haven't had time until now to look at this again. I have the ECU and the 30min timer. I have identified the main power supply cables and the connectors for the fuel pump. Still a few loose ends though.
From the main wiring harness, two wires go into the timer box, and then two come out again. In addition, three further wires go from the harness to bare ends. So five bare ends in all, purpose unknown.

Any tips?
