We know them quite well. Went and waved Ryan off. Saw the event unfolding and we were able to send some emails. I know it hit Ryan hard. He did a fab job at a big personal cost. BZ.
Interesting. When I was en route between the Canaries and the Cape Verde islands myself I often wondered what I would do if I came across a migrant boat, perhaps in distress and lots of debate with my crew member about this. On a 28' boat it would not be practical to take them aboard as it would endanger ones own vessel (unless only 1 or 2 of them) but even then you might be worried about your own safety. At least Ryan had good communications , I had only VHF. I still don't know what I would have done in the circumstances. Well done to Rayan for sticking with it.
