Oh Lordy! Have I done something really stupid?

Sad old git buys big bike; first bike ever; Pan European; pick it up tomorrow.

All Scuttlebutters are advised to take extreme caution on the roads around WInchester and the A303 until further notice.

Still, as SWMBO says, its better, and cheaper, than a mistress - just.

Welcome to the multitude of boat and big bike owners! Commuting on a big bike is a thing of joy, as you pass all the tin cans parked on the motorways. Mind you yesterdays weather was def not biking weather/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

So what bikes do you others have, mine is a BMW K100RS

This has happened to a lot of friends of late, which says something about my age also. SWMBO firmly vetoed me buying a bike so I had to settle for a tractor which has phenomenal 0-10 performance, but is then somewhat tame up to its top speed of 18mph.

Will look forward to seeing pictures of the new-age JJ trying to look purposeful at the chart table in his leathers...

oh you don't want to get one of these AWB's (average wobbly bikes) you want a good old fashioned, heavy british bike from the halcyon days of poor quality unionised 60's manufacturing, with a recalictrant engine and a kick start which requires 5 elephants to kick it over. These AWB's are all very good, but they're only designed for the popular market and although they are good in average conditions what happens if you need to do 165mph in a force 12 cross wind eh - the light weight construction will be no good at all, and they will all fall apart in 3 weeks blah.. blah ...blah,

Sorry got carried away - thought this was another boaty dicussion /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

It's an eight-year-old Honda ST1100 Pan European tourer - a big heavy jobbie but it can still out accellerate a Porche 911 to 60 (4.7 secs) and has a top speed of 137mph (115mph with me on board, I suspect)

Tell me! I was trying the bike out yesterday in the worst of the rain - mind you, the extra-height touring screen deflected 9/10ths of it straight over the top

Ditto the comments about commuting on a big bike. Working day starts and ends with a grin.

Hi Talbot

I got a 1985 BMW R80RT. Disagree about the "slipability" of a tourer though, mine was too wide to get through my kitchen door. Also got a four wheel "motorbike" in the form of a Westfield SEI (Ford X-flow power). The bike has better weather protection!!!

Regards
Cameron

Re: Same Mid-life crisis. nb

Er confession time – same mid life crisis – I just bought a new Triumph Bonneville – Black and White tank. Much better than the old one(s) I had in the dark old days. Sorry Tome to read that yours was disallowed. You’ll hear mine at Northney – it has the straight through hooligan pipes.

Lucky man

The Pan is a lovely bike, a friend of mine rode one round the world a few years ago, he was supposed to be writing a book about the trip but I don't think he ever finished it.

I was banned by SWMBO a few years ago from riding and I am now down to 3 bikes in various states of disrepair.

Now she's even started objecting to the mistress as well!
