Lordy, when I saw the post heading I thought you where tripping back to the 70's and I was going to have to direct you to Dodgy Dave who lurks down the beach! But if you mean those microdots....i don't know anything but the VERY bare basics about them, but it might be worth ringing Sealarm Harbourguard marine security on 01293 771167, i imagine they might have a clue. Hope this helps......
Surely they're only of use if you find something yourself that's been stolen to prove it's yours? Can't imagine plod doing much to help. And if they showed up easily like UV visible marking the scrotes would have them off wouldn't they?
Speak to the motor cycle department, infact James J will probably know, if he sees your post.
Also widely used on jet skis.
Fluid with thousands of coded chips in it. Dab it far and wide, all over the boat, hull, engine, instruments, inject into upholstery and MARK the fact that it is there. Pay to register assets marked thus.
Doesn't stop stuff being nicked, in fact the average scrote won't know what a microdot is, less so care.
IF the police ever stumble across the stuff, and IF they scan with a wand to detect the chip, they can find out to whom it belongs.
I think mobile phone based asset tracking is probably a better bet for a boat, and a post code etched on the gear.
Motor bike theives probably understand what a 'I've been Micro-dotted' sticker means.

The only thing that is clearly visible is the stickers that hopefully make the thieving barstewards go elsewhere.
There are thousands of them sprinkled into nooks and crannies making them almost impossible to remove.
I believe that the police will contact microdot if they recover something with microdot stickers .They have a database then of the owners.wether this actually happens in the real world I cant say.
