Miami Chi!

Great. What happens if the weight misses the windscreen but hits the driver and injures him/her? They may be complete and utter plonkers (OK, they are complete and utter plonkers) but it would be you who ends up in court, charged with assault, or worse.

Countering stupid, inconsiderate behaviour with violence really doesn't help and, frankly, lowers you to their level, imho.

Wouldent think it would be my fault if the speedboat drove into the path of my lure while I was fishing, he/she would need to prove it was deliberate, if they could actually remember.
Must admit it would not really be my style of handling such a situation, I would probably just report it to the CG.;)
Wouldent look too good on the required annual Enhanced Disclosure which I have been getting for the last 10yrs.

Please, please Flapjack, please tell me you kicked the s**t out of him....it's the only way bullies learn and he'd probably be less inclined to act like that again!!!!
HATE these kind of people... AARRRGGGGGGG

I have to be honest I showed remarkable restraint that day mainly because my daughter was there, I just settled for the satisfaction of watching him disappear up the slip way with his tail between his legs in front of a pub full of people after I’d told exactly what I thought of him :D

You on probation then???

Hi Northwind
I saw the prats as we were mooring! Unbelievable......except sadly not. I think we came up the Emsworth Channel together if your 3 kids were dangling their legs over the starboard side like pros. That's how to do it.

Yeap that was us, I'll say hello next time! :-)

The legs over the side would be almost professional... except that they insist on sitting on the leeward gunnel, as they want the boat to tip and get their legs wet.. its a brilliant way of keeping them entertained. I have them clipped onto the boat from the back of their lifejackets so no danger of them falling off. :D

I think if they ever see a boat racing, they will complain that the crew are on the wrong side.:D

Northwind,

I meant to say thanks for your original post, I've mentioned it to local sailing clubs as a warning / lookout.

My pleasure!? I posted it as a bit of a warning really, perhaps I should have kept my mouth shut, but it really pi$$es me off that people like this think they can do what the hell they want, and spoil it for the rest of us.

They raced under the bridge and were carving about in Langstone as well, it was a real shame it wasn't a spring tide, as I'd quite like to see them perched on a mudbank :D :D :D

Northwind,

may I apologise on behalf of all right minded sports boaters. I'm glad no harm was done and support the flare gun suggestion (not really ).

Also, sadly, the chavs are chavs wherever they are comment.

There's no hope for some people

This was never intended to be a dig at sports boaters, more a warning that if you find a mobo shaped hole in your boat, then its probably one of these guys when they lost control :)

It just amazed me that he was trying to recreate something out of James Bond, weaving in an out of moored boats. I'd have thought it would be much more fun to go and find some open sea and then open the throttle, rather than risk hitting the bottom or wrapping yourself round a mooring.

I think the chavs will be chavs comment is so true.

Thanks to all for the support.

Whatever happened to those anti-terrorist nets that they were trialling for protecting Weymouth? Surely something that buggers up the prop would be infinitely more preferable to a lead weight missile. ...As long as it can be recovered covertly afterwards...

I'll send the wife off in the tender with a pair of old tights next time, get her to stretch then across the channel :D

Failing that, arm the children with water pistols..

Or maybe I'll have to start bringing the mother in law along.

Normally a quick call on ch14 to Chi Harbour Conservancy gets them down to you. They did use a radar speed gun and I believe it's a 2,000 pound fine.

The trouble with the Emsworth side of the harbour, is its out of the way. All the action takes place between the harbour entrance and Itchenor, so getting the patrol up here on a busy weekend is difficult, as they can be busy with other issues.

Channel 14, as we discovered at the weekend, doesn't work too well from near the top of the Emsworth channel. It's much more reliable to call their landline.

Catching anyone speeding is difficult, and although there were at least two witnesses, I doubt that would be any use.

I understand. For all the less than savoury retalliations, hitting them really hard in the pocket is very satisfying. :) I saw a report where 2K fines had been handed out under the bye laws. I've seen the CHC rib chasing jet skis with the radar. Maybe a strong complaint to CHC of danger to young ones will get Emsworth further up the list. Isn't there an office up your way too, I seem to remember?

If they are not stopped it will eventually end in tragedy and most of the time it’s the poor innocent sod that gets killed and the idiot that gets away with it, my mooring is in the Emsworth channel by the start of Sweare Deep and I have to use the tender to get to it, me and my family wouldn’t stand a chance if they we’re doing 20knts through the moorings and they hit us

Years ago a couple of friends were returning down Langstone Harbour on a quiet Sunday evening, when one happened by sheer luck to spot a chap waving from one of the mud flats; on closing they saw a speedboat high up on the mud and another chap lying down.

It turned out they'd been going at high speed ( yes I know there's a waterski / high speed area ) when they hit a wave and were both thrown out.

No kill chord, so the boat circled and ran them over, very severely cutting one guys leg.

No flares or radio ( it was before mobiles ) and they were left stranded on the mud, night closing in & one bleeding to death.

Apart from lack of safety kit they may not have been being that stupid; but to slalom between those closely spaced moorings on the Chichester side as described in the recent incident is utter madness.

The idiots who bothered Northwind were observed by several people on moorings and ashore at Langstone, but sadly I don't think any ID's could be made; they would be recognised if seen again though...

I don't think calling the Conservancy on VHF is a good idea, this may be one of the reasons the idiots came back to threaten ?

There is an office and a Sid who is one of the nicest blokes you could ever wish to meet. However he is equiped with a displacement launch that does 4 knots at best and an old dory that never seems to be in use.

If you want a lift to your mooring or a general chat about the weather then Sid's your man. Catching speeding chavs?... not really his thing! ;)
