Just got back from an eventful weekend in Chichester harbour.
This morning, I was on my way back to my mooring in the back of the harbour, when i saw two 20ft powerboats on the plane, weaving in and out of the moored boats, I'd recon doing in excess of 20knots. I was on deck lowering the main, and my 8 year old was at the helm. I looked at the lead boat and shouted at him to slow down, he did, but then chose to come over and began shouting and asking me aboard to settle his disagreement with my comment! In all my years afloat, I've never had someone trying to pick a fight on the water!
He then shot off on the plane, under the bridge and into Langstone. We reported the incident to chi harbour patrol, and carried on to our mooring to pack away. We obviously were not fast enough in packing up, as they then came and sat plodding about between us and the shore, presumably waiting for us to get into the tender and head for shore. Thankfully the harbour patrol came and escorted then off so we could get us and three children ashore.
I'm left feeling amazed at the agressive attitude displayed afloat, all over being asked to slow down, i understand speed limits are frustrating, but I've never seen a boat that fast in the harbour, they were obivously out to show off to each other, but wouldn't it be more fun to play outside the harbour?
This isn't a dig at all mobos, as the vast majority i have come across stay at least close to the rules.
More my amazement at the agressive nature on display from thes guys.
Its a funny old world!
