The Met Office Surface pressure charts are only updated once a day at 1300. So when I want to use them in the morning they are out of date. I think this is poor service from them. I have provided feedback on their website and wonder if others would,do,so?

Somewhere in Exeter there are some meteorologists p!ssing themselves with laughter.

The data for the pressure charts is provided from weather stations and balloons sent up all around the world at a synchronised time. Some of these locations are very remote. The data is collated and the maps generated once a day.

In reality all weather observations are 'out of date', so they make forecast charts. Other weather forecasting companies are available...

Are you looking at the right charts? The Met Office forecast charts I look at update twice a day, as does ECMWF, and the GFS four times a day.

If it's analysis and prognosis charts you want, this site appears to update the UKMO output FOUR times a day http://www.weathercharts.org/ukmomslp.htm

This from the Met Office explains why you've little reason to complain:

"An analysis chart, which shows the observed state of the weather, is issued along with forecast charts up to five days ahead. These are updated every 12 hours around 0730 and 1930, with the exception of charts for days four and five which are only issued once per day at 1930. The reason that these two charts are only issued once a day is because that far ahead the forecast surface pressure pattern will change more significantly, due to uncertainty at this longer time period, and there is limited value in updating it every 12 hours."

Brilliant thanks both, I've been looking for better charts to print off that the wee Met Office ones they publish; I like an A4 chart but could only ever get a smaller one from the Met Office off their site.
